The Television Personalities are an English post-punk band formed in 1977 by London singer-songwriter Dan Treacy who borrowed money from his Dad to record and produce the band’s earliest releases.
Dan was one of the pioneers of the d.i.y. ethic…de-mystifying the ‘music industry’… the others around that time being Desperate Bicycles, Scritti Politti and of course Buzzcocks. It’s a rich history…
Their 1978 EP ‘Where’s Bill Grundy Now?’ brought them to popular attention and features their chart hit, the seminal ‘Part Time Punks’.
Despite relatively minor commercial success (their third album was sardonically titled ‘They Could Have Been Bigger than the Beatles’), the Television Personalities are highly regarded by critics and have been widely influential, especially on the C86 generation.
In 2011, Dan Treacy suffered a blood clot on the brain and performances by the TVPs current line-up support Dan’s continued recovery.
Bringing their usual mix of mayhem and punk covers, also expect a set from Hastings Punk Choir and an array of popular punk belters from the night’s DJs.
